Domino’s

*I would like to start by saying, it’s not the best idea to be eating fast food pizza in the first place and I strongly recommend that if you do, it be a once in a long while type of thing. *

The juvenile act performed by the not so juvenile, former Domino’s Pizza employees was potentially dangerous and disgusting. Food safety is not a joke. Each year 1 in 6 Americans gets sick from and 3,000 die of foodborne diseases. Reducing foodborne illness by 10% would keep 5 million Americans from getting sick each year. The Punishment these two individuals received was unfair and extremely lenient.

For the most part, I believe Domino’s handled the situation well with the exception of not seeking harsher punishment for the employees responsible. Domino’s acted quickly in all the traditional media ways. The President of the company taking the time to speak himself instead of sending a press person gave the appearance they as a company were taking this matter seriously. At the time of the incident, Domino’s was out of touch with its customer base and had little to no social media presence. This was directly responsible for their slow response and inadequate damage control capabilities. They were unable to meet their attacker on the proper battlefield. In hindsight, it was probably good for them that this sickening event happened. It forced them to rethink how they were reaching the public and rebuild their image better than before. I also feel their use of social media was ingenious. They employed the very “tool” that was used against them and it became their greatest asset.

Let us all hope we can learn from Domino’s mistake and not have to learn the hard, disgusting way.
